Muse of the Week: Cerise Zelenetz
Cerise Zelenetz is an artist and writer currently living in New York City. Her parents are both New Yorkers but they raised her in Vermont and she moved to Paris when she was 16 years old. After two life-changing years living abroad, studying fine art and fashion, she returned to New York and graduated from Parsons with a degree in Menswear Design. Since graduating, she has worked in design, styling, writing, creative consulting and illustration with a bit of modeling here and there. In addition to working with other designers and creatives, Cerise is committed to her own artistic practice and makes time each day to step away from her computer and just draw. Though she enjoys exploring a wide range of media from pen and ink to watercolor, the majority of her work is bound by a common thread of ‘unsubstantiated nostalgia,’ or the notion of creating powerful memories that have no grounding in actual experience.
Each week we feature women and sometimes couples who break boundaries, who inspire, who tell a story, who give back and who are VERY creative. Cerise is committed to her own artistic practice and makes time each day to step away from her computer and just draw! We suggest you all to take a step back from your daily grind and pick something that makes you happy. You never know where those doodles will take you!
Please meet our muse of the week and get to know more about her in my BTS Q&A interview! Thank you Cerise for being part of this weeks feature. xo, Stacy
1. Are you a Subway or Car (via, uber, lyft) girl?
In New York I try to walk everywhere but definitely Uber over the Subway. Growing up in Vermont I’ve started to really miss the feeling of being in a car. I try to go back home at least once a month. The windy, deserted roads and fresh air are the best way to clear my head.
2. Favorite spot to be creative?
I find being alone in very public spaces really inspiring. I love sitting at bars by myself with a sketchbook or notepad, ordering a glass of wine and just observing.
3. Causes you advocate for?
I’m a member of a non-profit artist collective that hosts workshops and events to promote young creatives in New York. I think it’s really important to have these organizations that are willing and able to promote creativity without taking any profit from the creators.
4. Favorite quote?
‘Time is nature’s way of keeping everything from happening at once.’ -Woody Allen
5. Tell us about your last moment you shared with someone?
Living in New York it’s hard to go a minute without human interaction of some sort. I just woke up though so I guess the last moment I shared was with my boyfriend. He rolled over in his sleep and I pushed him back to his side of the bed. I’d say he shared the moment subconsciously.
