Muse of the Week: Yami Mufdi
Yami Mufdi is a certified personal trainer, online coach, youtuber, & model! She is a Dominican/Arabic beauty who recently left the bustling streets of New York City to the more quieter scenic trails of New Hampshire! She is a lover of food, laughing until she cries and cuddling with her 3.5lb yorkie, Bleecker.
She is a huge advocate for helping girls find balance with food, fitness, and life. Having gone through a very tough time herself, she aspires to be a role model for those that feel like no one understands them. Currently, Yami is getting ready to step onstage to compete in her 2nd NPC Bikini Competition while documenting her entire experience through her YouTube Channel. More recently, alongside her boyfriend, Yami has started an Athletic Lifestyle Clothing brand, LIFT, where their main priority as a company is to not only promote a healthy lifestyle, but to be a symbol of support for those around them. For every item purchased, they provide 11 meals for those less fortunate. They know they can't change the entire world, but they want to do what they can to at least try.
I cannot believe I have known Yami for six years! I asked her in our interview, "Do you remember the video you submitted for the first runway show you were in for Boy Meets Girl in 2010?" Yami replied, "hahahahahaah - i literally just DIED watching this. SO EMBARRASSING. lol I love you even more for picking me after that video!" How could I not pick this adorable girl in this video?
BELOW is the actual Boy Meets Girl® NYFW show captured by Explore Modeling founder Cristina DeHart. This show was in 2010 and featured the Neon Trees (the first Musicians I wove into a Boy Meets Girl NYFW show) and all the EM models we selected from the contest. This was Yami's first show to walk for us. She rocked this show and did her famous wink just as she did above in her submission video. Yami's spirit is exactly as you see it from off the runway to the actual runway. It has been so beautiful knowing Yami and it is incredible to see six years later how even more beautiful Yami has become both inside and out. Get to know more about Yami below in my BTS Q&A interview! Thank you Yami for being part of this week's feature and your incredible energy.
1. Are you a Subway or Car (via, uber, lyft) girl?
You know, I have mixed feelings about this one. When I was living in NYC, I wanted a car but now that I am living in New Hampshire, I miss the subway! I think what I miss more is the ENERGY of the people and the subway, to be honest. This may sound completely gross, but I love that distrinct smell of the subway, it always reminded me that, "Girl, you're in NYC. You gotta get to work!" - but to answer your questions, I'm definitely a car girl! Haha
2. Favorite spot to be creative?
I don't think I have a favorite spot just yet. I feel like I'm still settling in here in New Hampshire. The creativity spark can happen anywhere really! The shower, the stairmaster, the car- thank God for IPhone Notes! HAHA
3. Causes you advocate for?
There are so many things I'm passionate about. Firstly, it started out as me wanting to model and grace the covers of magazines. Agencies wouldn't sign me for being too "FAT" so I did to try and fit the mold, what THEY wanted. Fast forward 6 years, I know better and know that that is not what I want to be. I want to stay true to myself while inspiring others. I want to inspire young girls and women and encourage them to stay healthy. That "beauty" is not a size or a number on the scale. Society likes to try to tell us different but I think with all the recent breakthroughs (plus size models on covers), we're getting one step closer than we were. Another one I'm passionate about is hunger in America. My boyfriend and I just recently started LIFT, an Athletic Lifestyle brand where our main priority as a company is to not only promote a healthy lifestyle, but to be a symbol of support for those around us. For every item purchased, you help provide 11 meals for those less fortunate. We can't change the entire world, but we can do our part to try.
4. Favorite quote?
I have two. The first one is "for we walk by faith and not by sight" -2 corinthians 5:7, reminding me that although not everything always seems perfect and their may be bumps in the road, if we have consistent faith in whatever/whoever it is you believe in, and in yourself, you will overcome. And the second one is, "Find what you love and let it kill you" -Charles Bukowsi. I first heard that quote and it knocked me to the ground. It is so incredibly powerful if you think about it. It reminded me that we need to find our passions and make it our lives, have it consume us so much that we have no other choice but to share it with the world and in that moment we do leave this earth, our passion is what we leave behind. And that, will be more than enough.
5. Tell us about your last moment you shared with someone?
It happened yesterday actually. Someone told me that they wanted to quit their job and work for me. I was just so taken back by it. Literally brought tears to my eyes. I have dreams of building a brand where I can employ people but I am obviously not at that point just yet. But for someone to come say that to me at this moment, so early in the game, shows me that they believe in me. It just fueled me so much more.
