Muse of the Week: Renee Peters
Renee Peters is a fashion model and sustainable living expert. We sat down for a coffee at Friend of a Farmer in Gramercy in NYC and spoke to Renee about what makes her tick and our love of birds.
I was also fascinated by Renee's skin and wanted to learn more about her daily routine which is all natural. Luckily for us she posted her favorite picks to try for 2016 on her blog here! Thank you Renee for being our Muse of the Week. Learn even more about Renee below in my Q&A interview xx Stacy
1. Are you a Subway or Car (via, uber, lyftt), bus, walk girl?
My favorite part about living in New York City, is the Subway. I can live in Brooklyn, work in Soho, and volunteer in the Upper West Side, all while never needing to drive a car. I also LOVE exploring NYC by foot. During the warmer months walking is my favorite means of transportation because you can see so much. NYC is constantly changing and you don't really experience everything or all the diversity of each neighborhood without walking.
2. Favorite spot to be creative?
My favorite spot to be creative is in my bedroom. I have worked so hard to completely furnish it with sustainable, organic furniture and to decorate it with plants and the green things that I love, that it is the perfect place for me to be inspired about what I love. The sunlight and view from my window never fail to encourage me, and I write my green living blog there (Model4greenliving.com) whenever I have down time.
3. Causes you advocate for?
I am an advocate for animal rights, living and purchasing as sustainable as possible, for the conservation of our Natural ecosystems, and Wildlife Rehabilitation.
During university I obtained a degree in Animal Biology. As a result of my education I became more aware of the affects of the Animal Agricultural Industry on our environment, and how it is negatively impacting our Earth.
As an advocate for the issues above, I decided to take up vegetarianism and have subsequently become Vegan. This has been my lifestyle for the past 6 years.
Veganism is one way that EVERYONE can make a HUGE impact in the fight against climate change and help towards the preservation of our Planet.
I also am a regular Volunteer at The Wild Bird Fund; The only wildlife rehabilitation center in NYC; and am an active participant in the sustainable fashion movement.
4. Favorite quote?
If you are feeling helpless against the problems of the world, remember: "It is better to light one candle, than to curse the darkness."
5. Tell us about your last moment you shared with someone?
I was at Health and Wellness discussion held by Juice Press. My friend who has a charity organization, 100 For All, was discussing the importance of clean water with Marcus, the Juice Press founder. It was really inspirational seeing the potential that we all have to make a huge impact, realizing that everyone who is really successful now has started small too.
